When Cpl. Kevin Lee from the RAF Regiment proudly posed for a photograph with Mr. Blair while wearing a T -shirt emblazoned with a cartoon of Saddam Hussein and the logo "We came. We saw. We kicked ass," referring to the Gulf War, he received a ticking - off from a senior officer. It was an acknowledgement of the disquiet triggered among some in the Arab world about the attacks on Afghanistan.

Casually dressed in a white open-necked shirt and khaki slacks Mr Blair was greeted at Oman's Al Sha'afa camp - the control centre  of Operation Swift Sword II - by RAF Cpl Kevin Lee, wearing a T - shirt with the slogan: "We came, we saw, we kicked ass!"
